School Opinion Survey

The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted 28 July to 22 August 2025. All families, school staff and students in target year levels will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve. The Department of Education will commence sending email invitations to participants in the second week of term 3. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it.
Attendance - Everyday Counts

Our school target is 94%. We are currently sitting at 89.2%. The importance of students attending school can’t be underestimated. Not only it is vital for their learning, but it also is important for the development of friendships and feeling like they belong. If you are going to be away for an extended period of time, then you need to notify the office so you can be given a form that needs to be completed to explain your child’s absence.
Exciting Things happening at Thangool
- Welcome to Ms Theresa Treacy who is our new Head of Special Education Services. Theresa will be here Monday to Friday with Tuesday being her day to support our small schools.

It's Your Move - SEL News

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in Term 3: Friendships, Conflict and Building Resilience
This term at Thangool State School, our whole-school SEL focus is on Friendships and Conflict. We know that learning how to navigate friendships is a lifelong skill. Students will use their knowledge about the brain to help with strategies that calm their ‘guard dog’ or ‘Amygdala’ when conflict arises. Students will explore:
- How to communicate effectively when conflict arises
- Ways to solve problems with others
- The differences between being rude, mean, bullying, and experiencing conflict
Did you know? Research shows that a strong sense of belonging at school and positive peer connections are linked to better academic outcomes, increased motivation, and improved wellbeing (Allen et al., 2018). That’s why teaching and practising social skills is just as important as literacy and numeracy.
Continuing our Gratitude Journey
We’re also continuing our Gratitude Journals this term! Practising gratitude helps students recognise what is going well in their live, even during tricky times. Thank you to everyone for completing the survey on Gratitude for us.
- Gratitude supports resilience, emotional regulation, and a more optimistic mindset
- It’s free, simple, and a great conversation starter at home
- Parents can use the focus question each day as a great conversation starter.
Everyday Counts – The Importance of Attendance
- Students who have high attendance are more likely to stay engaged, achieve higher academically, and develop strong relationships with peers and teachers.
- According to research by Hancock et al. (2013), regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of school success, especially in primary years when foundations are built.
Our teachers will continue to recognise and celebrate students who are doing their best to maintain 94% attendance or higher. Every day at school really does matter!

Term 3 is a big term for our Project Club. On Monday 18th August we will be holding our annual Project Club Day. For our new families, Project Club Day is a like a mini–Agricultural Show with lots of "pavilion" entries for our judges to come and judge. Please see attached the Project Club information for 2025. Keep an eye of Facebook for Handy Hints to help with Project Club Day.

Book Week
Book Week will be celebrated from Monday 18th August until Friday 22nd August 2025. We will be holding a Book Fair in the library during Book week, please see the attached flyer for further information (days and times). Students may choose to purchase a book from our fair, with all purchases helping our school to purchase more library books for the library. We accept cash or card with an Eftpos machine available (a small surcharge applies) or parents may pay online using their secure payment pathway. Along with books, there will be posters and small, novelty stationery items for sale, please advise Cathy in the library if you do not want your child to purchase the novelty items. On Friday 22nd August, we will be holding a Book Character Dress up Day. Students can choose to come dressed as their favourite character. A special parade will be held after Breakfast Club to allow parents and students to see all the wonderful costumes.
