Term 4 Week 6 Newsletter 9 November 2022
From our Principal
It is hard to believe we are in the final weeks of the school term and talk is turning towards Graduation, Christmas and the long school holiday break.
We have lots of events and activities on over the remainder of the term so please ensure you keep an eye on our Facebook, newsletters and emails.
We are very excited to have our tennis courts completed and the students are certainly enjoying their time out on the courts. Next Monday also sees work being completed at the front of our school with plants, skip bin and decorative signage going up.
Have a wonderful week.
Fiona
Attendance
Thank you for supporting us with attendance and making every day count. It is great having all our students back in classrooms and doing their very best learning.
Planning for 2023
We are busy planning enrolments, facilities, resources and staffing for the 2023 school year. If you know you will not be with us next year could you let us know so we can factor this in our planning. If you know anyone considering Thangool for their child please get them to contact our office as all our staffing is based on day 8 numbers.
Feedback regarding Homework and SEL program
This term we trialled no homework based on evidence and before we make a decision for 2023 we would like your feedback. We also introduced SEL with our year 4-6 students and would love your feedback so we can refine and improve this program. Please return feedback via email to fbyrn1@eq.edu.au or print and return to office. We will also be seeking feedback about these programs at our next P&C meeting so please come along so we can hear your thoughts.
Remembrance Day
It is Remembrance Day on Friday (11 November) and our preps will be hosting our school service sharing information about the significance of Remembrance Day with all classes. Everyone welcome to join us at 10:45am.
P&C
At our last meeting our P&C donated money to the school to purchase some new resources.
This Thursday we have 2 new interactive whiteboards going into the year 1 and year 6 rooms, we have purchased new technology for all classes to use-blue bots and coding technology and finally we are waiting on installation of some new water bottle refill stations that will be around the school for students use.
A huge thank you to our P&C and our parents who support the different fundraising activities as all these activities provide valuable resources to our children.
We would love to see you at our final P&C meeting for 2022.
Reminders
With the weather warming up please remember it is an expectation that children wear a hat (wide brimmed, no caps). Also, it is strongly recommended for children to continue to bring water bottles.
Parent Tip for Lunch Snacks
Snack time can be made easier if parents cut a little triangle out of packets. It doesn’t break the seal but all children can then easily open the toughest packets especially chip packets.
Sport's News
Our Swimming Carnival will be held next Friday 18 November 2022. Thank you to everyone who has returned thier nomination forms.
It is wonderful to see an increase in nominations and participation this year. Thank you for supporting our carnival and encouraging participation. This year our Swimming Carnival theme is "What is your win?" and we encourage all our students to embrace challenge.
We will start marshalling at 9:45am (for a 10.00am start) so we ask all students who are being transported privately to be at the pool by 9:30am. Our buses will be leaving Thangool School at 9.15am and will return at the completion of our carnival. It is going to be a warm day so please ensure children have water bottles, hats, sunscreen, sun safe shirts-(Kariboe/Kroombit) and snacks they can nibble on throughout the day. Students will be allowed at certain times to go and purchase drinks/treats from canteen.
We are after parent helpers to assist in set up with lane ropes, tents etc. Could you let the school know if you would be available from 8:30am on Friday to help with set up?
If you are able to help with time keeping could you please follow the link to register?

From our Head of Curriculum
The Australian Curriculum sets out the essential knowledge, understanding and skills students need to learn and set standards for each year level for the first 11 years (P-10) of schooling. The curriculum represents what the Australian community values as the knowledge, understanding and skills that young people should attain.
The first version of the Australian Curriculum was written in 2010. Now in 2022, Version 9 has been released. Version 9 ensures that it continues to meet the needs of students now and into the future by refining, realigning and reducing the existing content of the curriculum.
Currently, the Thangool State School leadership team are involved in professional learning to ensure that we implement Version 9 with fidelity and validity. The Qld Department of Education has informed us that from 2024, “providing the updated curriculum in state schools will commence with English and Mathematics, with a staged approach to implementing the remaining learning areas will continue in 2025, with full implementation completed during 2026.” Until this time, we will continue to deliver robust, aligned and engaging units of work through implementing Version 8.4. Also, during 2023, we will also be developing units of work and building staff knowledge of Version 9. This will ensure there will be continuity of student learning and minimal disruption during this period of change.
Information about the Australian Curriculum has been specifically developed for parents. Parents can view information about what is taught in each Version 8.4 learning area:

Project Club News - Colour Run
Can you believe it? Only 2 days until our Colour Explosion Scavenger Hunt. The pizzas have been ordered - yum! Thanks Domino's Biloela.
Our Colour Explosion Scavenger Hunt is happening this Friday, 11 November. It is going to a colourific day! Parents are invited to join in the fun with us – don’t forget your white shirt (optional).
Thank you to all the families who are helping fundraise to purchase new robotic equipment for our school. We can’t wait to start exploring the world of robotics! The highest fundraising class will be coloured by the teachers at the end of the day. Our Prep class is currently in the lead, followed by Grade 1 and just behind them is the Grade 2 class. Who will it be?
Our day will start at 1.00pm with a Pizza Party supplied by Domino’s Biloela. Parents, Pizza orders can be placed via the QKr app. For $6.00, students will receive 4 slices of pizza and a Zooper Dooper (parents can order too). We have the following pizza toppings (3 Meats, Pepperoni, Margherita, Simply Cheese and Ham & Cheese). Students will bring their bags over to Possum Place and Pizza will be served from the HASS room.
At 1.30pm, the colour fun begins. Students and Parents will head out to oval to start the Colour Scavenger Hunt. Our class groups will try to figure out the clue and head the station that matches that clue. Once at the correct station, students will receive two letters and get coloured (approximately 10-15 minutes) before heading to the next station. (Listen for the music). Don’t forget to listen for our dance songs – everyone needs to stop and dance for the Chicken Dance and the Macarena. Once all stations have been completed, class groups need to try and solve our mystery phrase by unscrambling all their collected letters. Which class will be the first to solve the mystery? Chocolates all round for the winning class!
After this, we will find out our highest fundraising class – will Prep still be in the lead by Friday? After a dose of colour by our teachers, we then begin the clean up process and will head back to Possum Place for a Zooper Dooper and to collect our bags ready for home.
Some important things to remember! Students may choose to wear a white or light-coloured T-shirt. There is no slime this year, only coloured non-toxic powder. Students will receive a headband and coolest rainbow sunnies. A light spray of water will help set the colour on the shirt. Parents are welcome to order pizza too! Friday promises to be a colourful, fun filled afternoon. We hope you can join us. The rule for the afternoon is “Have Fun!”
Fundraising must be completed by Friday 11 November at 12pm. Remember to bring in your money and completed forms by Friday or complete your online fundraising. Don’t forget to select your prizes by Sunday 13 November if fundraising online.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us on (07) 49 900 333.
