Term 4 Week 10 Newsletter 9 December 2022
From our Principal
WOW, what a year! To think our year started with a 2-week delay and has been full on busy since. Our students have continued to excel academically, in the sporting arena, culturally and socially. This is the final newsletter for the year. I would like to acknowledge every member of our great Thangool team – Students, Parents/Families, Staff and broader Community for the work you have all done to get through this year.
This year saw the introduction of our SEL program for our year 4-6 students and it has gone from strength to strength and we are excited to continue growing in this area. Thank you, Ms Hyland, for your passion and wisdom in providing opportunities for our students to develop lifelong skills in being emotionally intelligent.
Our introduction of a specialist HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) lesson has also been well received by both staff and students and we look forward to being able to continue to bring more excursions and hands on learning into this curriculum area. We thank Mrs Beresford for her ability to engage our students in learning more about their local area. Her flexibility and keenness to work across all year levels is greatly appreciated.
Our HPE program continues to go from strength to strength under the dedicated and hard-working Mrs Nancarrow. This year saw Mrs Nancarrow start a Callide Valley sport committee to give all students an equal opportunity to perform to their best. Programs such as Scoot, Scoot, Circus and Parkour enable our students to get the very best in physical education.
Thank you, Mrs Moller, for bringing knowledge and experiences in learning about another culture through delivery of LOTE (Japanese) to our year 5 and 6 students.
We are incredibly lucky to have such fantastic support staff-our teacher aides (Mrs White, Mrs Goody, Mrs Carr, Mrs Bruckner, Miss Sarah) who support our teachers and students in the delivery of quality education going above and beyond every day. Our admin ladies Miss Ros and Mrs Lovell whose welcoming faces greet us every morning and who handle anything that comes their way with calmness and kindness. Mr Boyd & Leigh who work hard to ensure our school looks amazing and is an enjoyable place to teach and learn. Our fantastic cleaners-Katy, Nazaria & Devinia who ensure our rooms are sparkling and clean.
Mrs Harch and Mrs Tansey who offer in class support to students as well as extension programs such as spelling Bee, BEBRAS, writing, STEM-Uni challenges and art workshops. We are so very fortunate to have their knowledge and experience along with their care and enthusiasm to provide opportunities for our students to thrive.
Our dedicated classroom teachers who are simply the best in what they do, Mrs Brewer, Miss Mableson, Mrs Van Itallie, Mrs Bowkett, Ms Lawson, Miss Dean, Miss Symes, Mrs Burnham, Mrs Tansey. Their knowledge with curriculum and willingness to continually learn and improve is second to none.
Thank you to our amazing parents who value the importance of education and ensure every day counts. Thank you for working with the staff to give your child the best foundation in learning.
On behalf of the staff, I would like to thank our P&C who have worked hard to support the school in delivering the very best for our children. This year the P&C donated funds towards Camp, technology equipment, interactive whiteboard for the classroom, new water bottle troughs and handball court. On behalf of our staff I wish to extend sincere gratitude for this support for our school.
It is because of our families, community and staff that we make a great team for our students to learn to the best of their abilities, every day. Thank You to everyone for giving our kids so many opportunities to shine and living our mission statement…” working together to support the whole child”
Day 8 – Student Enrolment Collection
At the start of the school year there is a central data collection of student enrolment done on the 8th school day. This data is used to determine school staff and resource allocations for the year, therefore it is important that students (where possible) have already commenced school by this date. Parents are asked to ensure the following:
- That students have returned and attended school before this day (this will be most students).
- If you are having a late return, sometimes due to emergent issues or extended holiday, please contact our office before this school year ends so we can record this.
- If you know of people wanting to start at Thangool State School next year, it is important that they are enrolled ASAP.
School books drop off next year next year
Parents are welcome to deliver books to classroom and briefly meet the teacher on Friday 20th January 2:00-3pm.
We can all help to keep our schools safe
The responsibility rests with all of us. If you see something suspicious, look, listen, and report.
* Contact School Watch on 13 17 88 to report any incidents you see or hear, even if they seem minor.
* In an emergency or if you see a crime in progress dial Triple Zero (000).
May the break be kind to you all and I look forward to seeing you all in 2023. We will see you back here on Monday, January 23, 2023.
Have a wonderful break.
