Date Claimers Term 1
From our Principal's Desk
Thanks to students and parents for continuing the great start to the year. This is a crucial time for learning as the focus is on developing individual learning goals and implementing teaching of major content and skills in units for each core learning area. Later in Term 1 parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher and discuss: progress on their learning so far, goal attainment, and how to support ongoing improvement.
This week we welcomed a visit from Gary Goltz are Assistant Regional Director as well had meetings with Autism Queensland for a number of our students.
On Friday our year 6 students will be involved in a year 6 day. This day will be run by Miss Sammi Jo Hyland and supported by Chappy Casey & Ms Charmaine Symes. As camp has had to be postponed until term 2 we thought this would be a great way to bring our year 6 students together as a group to have time to focus on teambuilding and the qualities and attributes needed not only in the final year of primary but into high school and as an adult.
COVID-19 Restrictions Set to Ease
As you will have seen through news sources, the current restrictions impacting schools are set to ease after this Friday – 4th March. This is good news for our students, staff and community.
- All health advice on isolation after positive COVID 19 cases, and quarantine for close contact (family members) are the same.
- Masks will no longer be required in Queensland schools and can be used optionally.
- COVID-19 symptom management remains in place. Sick students will have parents called for immediate pick up, and sent home with a Rapid Antigen Test. Students/parents who are not well or showing symptoms should not come on site.
- Vaccinations are mandatory for all workers or volunteers delivering a service at a school or early childhood education and care setting.
- Afternoon pick up processes revert to normal.
This means that picking up from outside classrooms etc is allowed, we welcome parents onsite. - Parents or carers who are working or volunteering at a school site must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
- Adults are kindly reminded to maintain physical distancing at all times, especially at drop-off and pick-up time, in the car park, outside classrooms, and at the school gate.
With the time of lifted restrictions being 6pm Friday – all current measures remain in place until then - no changes this week please.
Every Day Counts at Thangool
It is imperative that students are at school each day to do their best, to make a year’s progress, and to attain their individual goals. The catch phrase “every day’s a learning day” sees our school attendance goal at 94%. Educational research has found that anything less than 10% absences throughout the year can impact significantly on outcomes- socially, emotionally, behaviourally and academically for students.
Mobile Phones and Electronic Devices (including Smart Watches)
Reminder on Devices - Phones and electronic devices should be left at home while attending school. The communication system in our school is effective and there is no need for students to bring mobile phones or electronic devices to school. If electronic devices are brought to school, they must be handed into the office where they will be stored securely. If students have SMART watches, they must be placed in flight mode during the duration of school hours. Students who are found to misuse smart watch technology will have the option to wear it revoked.
School Mission Statement/Capable Learner
This week we have been looking at the disposition of playful. One of our students summed it up beautifully….Playful means having fun while still being respectful. We encourage the disposition of playful both in and out of the classroom.
Year 6 Badge Ceremony
Our year 6 Badge ceremony will take place on Monday 7 March at 9am. Everyone welcome.
School Photos
Our school photos are booked for 17 March. Students came home with photo envelopes on Monday.
Naplan 2022
For students in year 3 & 5 NAPLAN dates are 10-20 May 2021. This year our school will again be doing NAPLAN online.
P&C AGM/Meeting
Our first meeting & AGM for the year will be on Monday 14 March 6:30pm in the library. We encourage you to attend our P&C meetings as this is a great way to meet people, learn what is happening in your child’s school, share ideas and be part of the decision-making process. Attending meetings does not mean you have to take on a position. Please come and be part of this wonderful and vital group in our school, we would love to see new faces.
Have an awesome week everyone!

Consent/Permission Forms
Two weeks ago, students would have received an envelope to bring home to you with a large number of consent/permission forms that are required to be signed and sent back to school. Thank you to the large number of families that have reviewed and completed the documents and returned them to us. Every year, our school is required to seek the necessary parental permissions for your child/ren to participate in the various sporting activities, access online learning materials and chaplaincy consent. We also use this opportunity to provide parents a copy of the contact/emergency information that we have on our system so that parents can review the information and make any necessary changes so that our records are up to date and correct. We also seek Bus Travel arrangements so that we know the correct bus your child is travelling on.
Online Services Consent
Our School uses tools and resources to support student learning, including third party (non-departmental) online services hosted and managed outside the Dept of Education network. Online services, including websites, web applications and mobile applications are delivered over the internet or require internet connectivity. Examples may include interactive learning sites and games. Our form informs you about the third party online services that our school uses and asks you to provide your consent for your child/ren to use those services. Children with no consent or forms not returned will not be allowed to access these applications. Our school limits the amount of personal information disclosed and stored within these online services (eg. when registering accounts, only the mandatory information will be disclosed).
Sports Activity Consent Form
To reduce the amount of activity consent forms, we have combined all of the sporting curriculum activities for 2022 onto one form. Not all activities listed will apply to all students as we have included district, interschool and grade specific units. Activities covered by this consent form include Cross Country, Discus instruction, athletics, swimming carnival and water awareness programs. Students without returned and signed permission forms will not be able to participate until consent is received.
Chaplaincy Consent Form
This form seeks your consent for one on one meetings with our school Chaplain. Thangool State School provides a chaplaincy service, which is approved by the school’s Parents and Citizens’ Association and is available to all students. Your child may be referred to meet, or indicated interest in meeting individually or in small group situations, with the chaplain on a regular or ongoing basis. For this to occur, your written informed consent is required. Consent will be asked for each calendar year and consent can be withdrawn at time by writing to the school.
If you have not received your forms or need a new copy, please contact the school office.
