Term 1 Week 6 Newsletter 28 February 2024
From the Principal
The weeks are flying by, with a lot of things on as we approach the end of term 1. Keep an eye on our Facebook, website and emails.
This year we have 2 priority areas: -
Priority 1. Enhancing educational achievement in Literacy through high quality instruction
Priority 2. Enhancing wellbeing and engagement through high quality partnerships and social emotional learning program
Our staff have been involved in a lot of professional development lead by our leadership team around structured literacy and the teaching of reading, this ensures our students are getting the very best in their education. In term 2 we will again be running reading workshops for our parents.
Staff have also participated in numerous professional development sessions around engagement in the classroom, emotional intelligence, visible learning and behaviour management supporting our SEL mission statement-To support social emotional capability, developing reflective learners to lead a fulfilling life.
In week 9, Monday 18 March we are running the first in a series of workshops to support parent’s, “Foundations for Connected Families”. I strongly encourage you to attend as it also supports the work, we are doing in our school SEL program.
Have an awesome week everyone!

A big thank you to Miss Sammi Jo Hyland and Miss Charmaine Symes for their time and effort in organising and participating in camp, offering our students an invaluable experience.
Attendance - Every Day Counts
Our current attendance is 91.5%. Our school target for attendance is 94%. It is extra important that students are at school every day (unless unwell) so that they can participate in the teaching and learning that happens every day. Attendance also plays a crucial role in friendship and social and emotional development.
Remember, EVERY DAY COUNTS!
P&C
The AGM followed by a general meeting will be held on Thursday 21 March at 5pm at the Red Steer.
The P&C is a wonderful support to our school and we would love to see many returning or welcome new parents to come along.
School Mission Statement/Capable Learner
Our school mission statement forms the basis of all decisions made by the school. Our first question in all we do is always “what impact does this have on our students?”

After our ‘Capable Learner Framework’ is shared with a specific focus on a school rule and disposition, behaviour awards are presented. Mrs Byrne and/or other staff share general notices and we then celebrate student and staff birthdays.
KID’S SHED
Our Kid’s Shed is a place where students can go, to participate in craft, gardening, cooking or an activity arranged around a certain event taking place at the school or in the community. It is also a safe place where students can go when they are feeling lonely, need the support of an adult or as a place to cool down on a hot day. Our Kid’s Shed operates Monday to Friday during first break under the supervision of teaching staff. Our Kid’s Shed welcomes donations of craft items or volunteers who may have a special talent and would be available to teach these skills to our students.
