Term 1 Week 8 Newsletter 14 March 2024
From the Principal
It has been a very busy term. A very big thank you to:-
- Our parents/carers for your continued support and all the varied ways you add to our school.
- Our staff for their commitment to excellence and always looking for ways to give our students the very best.
- Our students who have worked hard with their learning and play and make everyday a great one.
Have an awesome week!
Fiona
NAPLAN
NAPLAN Online for Year 3 & Year 5 started today.
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for and students are not expected to do so. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent teacher interviews are being held on Tuesday 26 March 1:30pm-5:45pm
We look forward to seeing many parents and celebrating the progress every child has made.
Caroline Blackley - 4D
Next week on Monday and Tuesday we welcome Caroline back into our school for our school data sweep on Monday and Tuesday. This is a fantastic opportunity for our teaching staff to get feedback on the wonderful work they do everyday in their classrooms and also look for their next step as a continual learner.
TSS Capable Learner Framework
Cross Country
Thursday 28 March we will hold our school cross country at the Rec Reserve. All staff will be at the Rec Reserve on this day so no children can be at school until the completion of our cross country.
Students have been involved in Smart Moves 3 times a week in preparation for running the cross country.
Our cross country is also a project club fundraiser. This fundraiser every year supports project club in purchasing new resources. Please encourage family and friends from far and wide to jump online and support your child to help raise money towards our project club to support the students at school.
At the competition of our cross country we will have a sausage sizzle (for those who wish to order) followed by the announcement of age champions and the overall winners.
I look forward to seeing you all there and enjoying the moment KARIBOE holds up this year’s trophy! 😊

Week 8
TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Thangool State School offers parents/carers the opportunity to discuss your child’s educational performance with their teacher(s) during Week 9 of Term 1 and Term 3. Parents/carers are able to make an interview time through the electronic booking system (SOBS). These interviews provide a snapshot of your child’s progress and are only short in duration. If you would like to have a longer meeting, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a mutually agreed time. Interviews will begin in the afternoon, while students are supervised by the Principal and specialist staff. We use a consistent Parent-Teacher Interview template to record student data and conversations. These interview forms are only provided to families who have attended an interview. Following the interview, this document is uploaded to your child’s school record.
ASSEMBLY
At the end of each term, whole school assemblies are held. After performing the Acknowledgement to Country, National Anthem and School Prayer, each class shares a brief snapshot of their learning. Special awards and honours are presented at the whole school assembly. The presence of parents and community members at the weekly parade and end of term assemblies is encouraged.

SEL News
International SEL week
Last week we celebrated International SEL week. Social-Emotional Learning encompasses self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. By nurturing these skills, we empower our children to navigate life's challenges with resilience, empathy, and a strong sense of self. We are proud of the continually learning that not only our students take on but also our staff and parents.
Last week was also a wonderful opportunity to see our Year 6 students embrace challenge and learn to develop their communication and leadership skills on camp. There is nothing that can replace applying real skills in practical settings. It was wonderful to see them all buzzing when they got back from camp.

P&C - Disco Divas - Thank you!
WOW!!!! A huge congratulations to our school P&C.
The first Disco Divas event was a glittering success on Saturday with roughly 170 ladies enjoying the safe opportunity to connect with others and dance the night away. We had so many sequins! Thangool Race Club sparkled!
Disco mirror balls featured in the gorgeous styling and the P&C utilised their new bar featuring local cattle brands. A huge thank you to Kylie for building this magnificent piece and all the local sponsors for placing your branding on our bar.
Such an awesome event comes from hours of behind the scenes commitment. Thank you to Leonie for leading a wonderful team who planned and executed a wonderful night all to raise funds to support the children of our school.
A huge thank you to the Disco Divas sponsors and supporters!
