And that’s a wrap on Term 1…it certainly flew by!
It was certainly a busy but successful term of teaching and learning. Our term consisted of:-

It has been a very busy term. I would like to thank
- Our parents for the support they give to their children and our staff, and for the many and varied ways they add to the quality of our great school.
- Our staff for the commitment to excellence they show in making learning and fun the key to every school day for every student; and most importantly
- Our students whose hard work is paying off as they learn and play.
Attendance Counts!
Happy Holidays
Fiona Byrne

Within our school’s Annual Implementation Plan we have a focus on attendance as we know high attendance supports academic achievement, engagement, friendships, belonging and wellbeing. Our school target is 94% we are slightly under our target and we hope you will work with us to make every day count at school.

Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
In Term 2, students in Years 4 and 6 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey. We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students.
More information, including FAQs, can be found on the Education website: https://alt-qed.qed.qld.gov.au/publications/reports/statistics/schooling/students/queensland-engagement-wellbeing-survey/faqs-for-parents-and-carers
School Mission Statement/Capable Learner
Our school mission statement forms the basis of all decisions made by the school. Our first question in all we do is always “what impact does this have on our students?”

Over the term our year 6 leaders have led the teaching of our school dispositions on parade. It is great seeing them explain them in student friendly language. Throughout the term we are seeing our students build on and use these dispositions in class and the playground.
Congratulations
I am absolutely delighted to share that Sammi has been honoured with the Pride of Workmanship Award, a well-deserved recognition of her dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence in education.
Over the past five years at Thangool, but many more in her previous roles Sammi has played a pivotal role in leading Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), 4D and Visible Learning in our school, making a profound impact on both students, staff, parents and the greater community. Her role as an impact coach has led to various contributions including:
- Introducing ‘It’s Your Move’ for Year 4-6 students, enhancing student wellbeing and engagement.
- Leading staff professional development and parent workshops to build a strong SEL foundation.
- Organizing camps and focused student support groups to foster resilience and personal growth.
- Presenting at a state level on our school’s program, upskilling a large number of teacher aides.
- Leading the 4D framework, supporting staff in effective behaviour management practices.
- Driving visible learning initiatives, ensuring clarity in learning intentions and success criteria, leading to greater engagement and improved learning outcomes.
- Facilitating Impact Coach catch-ups, supporting teachers in their roles and helping them grow professionally.
- Overseeing One School data administration, ensuring accurate tracking of student behaviour and attendance to drive informed decision-making.
- Sharing her expertise, experience, and knowledge to build capability across our school, strengthening both staff and student development.
Beyond these incredible achievements, Sammi leads by example, demonstrating kindness, patience, and a genuine passion for making a difference through connection and her strength-based approach. Her calm, caring nature and warm, smiling personality brighten every room, making a positive impact on all who work alongside her.
Please join me in congratulating Sammi on this outstanding achievement! We are so grateful for her dedication and proud to have her as part of our team.
Well done, Sammi Jo!
Keep a watch on our School these Holidays
Parents and students can help take care of our school by reporting any suspicious after-hours activity to School Watch on 13 17 88. By keeping an eye out, we can work together to create a safer school community and help to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in our school.
Long Service Leave
I will be away for the first 3 weeks of next term on LSL. In my absence Ms Sammi Jo Hyland will be acting principal from the 22 April-30 April and Mrs Ellen Brewer will be acting Principal from 1 May-9 May.
For those who celebrate have a wonderful Easter and may you all enjoy a nice break from the school routines. See you all on Monday 22 April for the start of term 2.

Impact Coach Update
Term 1 - Wrap Up
As we reach the end of Term 1, it’s a great time to reflect on the learning and growth we’ve seen throughout the school. This term, we have placed an emphasis on gratitude, friendships, and teamwork, ensuring our students develop essential social and emotional skills that will support them both in and out of the classroom.
Gratitude:
One of our key initiatives has been the introduction of gratitude with our reading logs and diaries, helping students develop a habit of daily appreciation. In addition, our classes have embraced daily gratitude practices, creating a positive and reflective start to each school day. Thank you to parents and caregivers who have been engaging in conversations about gratitude at home. Your support reinforces these valuable lessons and helps build a strong connection between home and school.
SEL lessons:
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has remained a focus, with dedicated weekly lessons exploring key concepts to support student well-being. A highlight has been our deep dive into the Four Friendship Facts and Friendships are like rollercoasters. Additionally, our ‘It’s Your Move’ lessons have provided hands on opportunities for students to practice collaboration and problem solving in real world contexts.
Teaching practices:
We are also incredibly proud of our staff, who recently participated in an external 4D Sweep. The feedback was really positive, highlighting the effective strategies our teachers are using to create productive learning environments.
Enjoy you Easter Break.
