From the Principal

Last week of term 2! Where has the past 10 weeks gone?!
The first semester of the 2025 school year concludes at 3:00 pm today following a busy, challenging, rewarding, exciting, thought provoking, jam packed, illness filled, and amazing 20 weeks. Make sure you take the time to rest, enjoy quality family time, recharge the batteries as we head into another busy term and semester after the holiday break.
I would like to commend our students on their outstanding performance at the sports carnivals. What a great couple of days showcasing our students’ talents, the spirit of sportsmanship and community togetherness with many families in attendance. It was wonderful seeing the enthusiasm, participation and positive attitude of all who participated. A huge thank you to Mrs Ebony Nancarrow for her organisation and preparation of students for the events. A big thank you to Mr Boyd for the marking of our track and to our wonderful staff for all the support in ensuring a successful day. To our amazing P&C and tuckshop convenor Mel McGovern along with her helpers for catering of our days.
Last Friday we competed at the zone athletics where our students again shined. A big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to another amazing sporting term.
Have an awesome holiday break everyone! Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you in term 3.
Fiona
Academic Reports and Assessment

Teachers are currently finalising student work, assessments and project tasks in preparation for Semester 1 Report Cards. While assessment is ongoing throughout the term, some tasks are deliberately scheduled towards the end to capture the most recent demonstration of student learning.
Report cards will be issued on Friday 27th June 2025, please check your email.

Attendance
Attendance-Every Day Counts
Students achieve more when they are at school every day, learning. Consistent attendance helps children feel connected, confident, and ready to succeed. Our first semester attendance sits at 90.1% with our target being 94%. Evidence tells us that high attendance supports both academic and social and emotional learning. Next semester we will have a big focus as per our annual implementation plan to get our attendance at 94% or higher to give our students the very best head start. Thank you for supporting us in this work.

Capable Learner
Our school mission statement forms the basis of all decisions made by the school. Our first question in all we do is always “what impact does this have on our students?”
Our school has developed its own Thangool State School (TSS) Capable Learner. Our capable learner works to support our mission statement looking at all aspects of what makes a student a capable learner at Thangool.

School Uniform - Cool Weather Reminder

As the cooler months approach, a reminder that Thangool State School is a uniform-wearing school. Jumpers must be plain black and hoodie-free. Students wearing non-compliant items will be asked to remove them or given a black jumper to wear for the day. Thank you for helping us maintain our high standards.

Get Set for Prep

Enrolments are open for Prep 2026. Children born between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021 are eligible to enrol now for next year. If you have a child or know someone with a child ready to start Prep next year, please come along and/or contact the office for enrolment information. Another great way to help is to point prospective parents to our school Facebook page. Keep watching our newsletters and socials for the “Get Set for Prep” events, to orientate and on-board our Prep students for next year.
Parents and Carers – Do we have your latest contact details?

There are times when we may need to get in touch with you. Do we have your most up-to-date details - including your name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details?
If not, please contact the school on (07) 49900 333 or email us onprincipal@thangoolss.eq.edu.au so we can update our records.
Please remember to let the school know when any of these details change.
Parents and Social Media

Parents and Social Media
Our school is excited to use social media as a tool to engage with new families and provide a glimpse into our community. The best way you can support our schools is to Like, Share and Tag friends in our posts to help us reach more families and make their transition to our school as smooth as possible. Your support and engagement are greatly appreciated!

Term 2 SEL Wrap-Up: Learning About Our Brains & Growing Gratitude
As we come to the end of Term 2, we’re so proud of the learning our students have done through our whole-school Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) focus.
This term, every class has been exploring how the brain works. Students have learned about key parts of the brain like the Wise Owl (prefrontal cortex), Guard Dog (amygdala), and Sifting Sootie (RAS). These lessons have helped students better understand how their brains respond to big feelings, and they’ve been learning strategies to help calm their bodies, think clearly, and make good choices when challenges arise.
Alongside these brain-based strategies, we’ve had a strong focus on gratitude. Across the school, students have been using gratitude journals and diaries to regularly reflect on the good things in their day. Practising gratitude helps build positive mental health, encourages optimism, and strengthens relationships. It’s a powerful strategy for both children and adults.
We encourage families to use the journals as a conversation starter at home. Take a moment to sit with your child and share what you are grateful for too. This simple act of modelling can have a big impact on your child’s wellbeing.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us raise emotionally aware, resilient learners.
