Term 1 Week 10 Newsletter 30 March 2022
From the Principal's Desk
It has been a very busy term. A very big thank you to:-
- Our parents/carers for your continued support and all the varied ways you add to our school.
- Our staff for their commitment to excellence and always looking for ways to give our students the very best.
- Our students who have worked hard with their learning and play and make everyday a great one.
I hope you have a wonderful break, stay well and come back refreshed for term 2.
NAPLAN 2022
NAPLAN Online for Year 3 & Year 5 – 11-21 May. This year, between 11th and 21st May, our Year 3 & Year 5 students will be doing NAPLAN Online.
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for and students are not expected to do so. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers. Please see attached parent sheet for further information.
Medication Policy
At the beginning of term 2 a new Education Queensland medication policy comes into effect. This means staff at the school are unable to administer any medication that does not have a prescription label from a Doctor. Over this term we have been slowly introducing these new guidelines but if you have any queries please make contact with our office.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent teacher interviews are being held on Thursday 31 March from 12-5:30pm.
We look forward to seeing many parents and celebrating the progress every child has made.

Cross Country 2022
Friday 1st April we will hold our school cross country at the Rec Reserve. All staff will be at the Rec Reserve on this day so no children can be at school until the completion of our cross country.
On Thursday afternoon 31st March students in 1-6 will walk to the Rec Reserve under staff supervision to walk the course. Students have been involved in Smart Moves 3 times a week in preparation for running the cross country. As our Prep students’ course is on the oval of the Rec Reserve they will remain at school for the walk through along with any student who hasn’t returned their permission form.
Our cross country is also a project club fundraiser. This fundraiser every year supports project club in purchasing new reading materials. Please encourage family and friends from far and wide to jump online and support your child to help raise money towards reading.
At the competition of our cross country we will have a sausage sizzle (for those who wish to order) followed by the announcement of age champions and the overall winners.
I look forward to seeing you all there and enjoying the moment KARIBOE holds up this year’s trophy! 😊
Have a wonderful week.
Fiona
From our Guidance Officer
Hello everyone,
Sunday, 27th March, was Neighbour Day. This day is Relationships Australia’s social connection campaign, aiming to support and enable sustainable, respectful relationships across communities, while also helping to address loneliness across the nation. For further information, the website is: https://neighbourday.org/
I thought it appropriate to bring this to your attention, as we come to the end of yet another disrupted term. It has been difficult, as many of us have contracted COVID, requiring several days of isolation, and this has brought significant pressures on our school communities and home-lives.
Over these upcoming holidays, spend time checking on those who may need a hand, even if it is just to have a cuppa, or pick up something from the shops, just to make and maintain that connection.
Importantly, make sure you spend some time focussing on yourself: gardening, walking/hiking/ meditation, sitting taking in the view, listening to favourite music, reading a book, getting that job done that has been on the ‘to-do’ list for the past … well, long time! We are still living in the pandemic, and we still need to ‘fit our own oxygen mask first’.
Bearing that in mind, have a great break, take a well-earned rest from the craziness of what is going on in the world, and I look forward to my visits to Thangool next term.
If you feel you need someone to talk to, and you don’t have access to anyone local, you can try any of the numbers that appear below.
I am at Thangool State School every second Friday (even weeks of the term), and can be contacted by calling the school on 4990 0333, if there is anything you would like to talk about regarding how to support your child.
